Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday returned a cell phone and a camera lens to a foreign tourist who was attacked and mugged last week.
Sebastian Gertz from Germany and his Kazakh girlfriend Yekaterina Ponomarenko retrieved their belongings two days after police arrested their alleged attackers, a group of five boys aged 11-15.
The couple was assaulted when they were visiting the Tau Hu Channel in District 1 at around 3 a.m. on October 19.
The gang allegedly slashed Gertz several times, before fleeing with the tourists' belongings and some cash.
Gertz has recovered from the injuries.
In the wake of the robbery, local tourism authority has vowed to work with the police to enhance measures to protect tourists, especially those traveling on their own.
At least 124 robbery and snatch-and-run cases involving foreign tourists have been recorded around Ho Chi Minh City this year.
