A German man died after falling from the fourth floor of his mother-in-law's house in Hanoi Wednesday.
Frank Gerd Oitmann, a German, fell five minutes after he left the dinner table and went up the fourth floor for a rest, news website Dan Tri reported.
Oitmann ended up on the first floor near the dinner table where his Vietnamese wife was still sitting with his mother-in-law and their housekeeper at the house on Hoang Van Tham Street.
Investigations found the man had fallen through the house's open air space alongside the stairs. Many Vietnamese homes have such "air wells" to ventilate and allow in more sunlight.
The 55 year old went to Vietnam in January and stayed temporarily for Tet, the Lunar New Year Festival that is Vietnam's biggest holiday.
Police are investigating the accident.
