Gamblers attack raiding cops in northern Vietnam

Three officers were brutally attacked by gamblers at a den they raided in the northern port city of Hai Phong last week, local police said Monday.

It happened at around 10:30 p.m. on January 22 when nine Tien

The officers were divided into two teams, and the first with three of them stormed into the den and caught around 20 people gambling.

When the officers ordered the gamblers to sit still, Vu Van Ket, a 42, yelled: “Who sent you here?”

He then started insulting them, while the others rushed towards them and attacked them.

They used bricks, wooden rods, and shovels to attack Le Van Quyet, Le Van Hung, and Hoang Cong Tru.

They only stopped when Quyet fired several shots in the air to warn them.

The second team then arrived at the scene and helped the trio control the gamblers.

Ket told the police he had held a year-end party for around 30 people, and after drinking 20 had stayed to gamble.

The police have taken in 10 of them on charges of “gambling” and “resisting officers on duty.”

Gambling is a crime in Vietnam.
