Police in southern Vietnam have detained an employee of a gas trading firm for his involvement in a scam that sold fuel oil (FO) mixed with water.
Initial investigations show that Do Van Thinh, who worked for the HCMC-based Quoc Duy Gasoline Transport and Trading Co., had taken away 20-30 percent of the FO volume loaded in trucks to be transported to buyers in Dong Nai and replaced with water.
The arrest came after the police caught four of Quoc Duy's truck drivers transporting two trucks containing FO mixed with water to companies in Dong Nai's Nhon Trach District and Bien Hoa Town in late last month.
Each truck was loaded with around 10,500 liters of diesel and 2,800 liters of water, the police said.
The four drivers, Co Thanh Phong, Nguyen Huu Quyen, Le Van Cat, and Nguyen Truong Son, admitted to the police that they had sold the FO stolen from Quoc Duy Company to traders in Binh Duong Province.
The four men, along with Thinh, have been placed under investigation for "stealing property."
