Police in the northern province of Thanh Hoa seized a frozen tiger carcass that was thrown out of a car they were trying to flag down Sunday and arrested the driver.
A group of officers on routine patrol on the Ho Chi Minh Road in Ngoc Lac District signaled the car driver to stop.
But he sped up and tossed a large sack out of the window.
Some of the officers opened it and found a frozen tiger carcass weighing around 100 kg.
Others chased after the car and managed to stop it in a forest, where two men jumped out and fled.
Pham Duc Hoa, 26, the driver, however, could not escape, and he was taken to a nearby police station.
But the Nghe An Province native refused to reveal the identities of the two men.
The police assumed the three were members of a gang smuggling wild animals from Nghe An to Hanoi.
They are investigating.
