André Menras Ho Cuong Quyet (R), the president of ADEP, presents cash donation to Tieu Viet La, a fisherman in Quang Ngai Province’s Ly Son District, at a charity event in 2012.
The France-Vietnam Friendship Association for the Development of Educational Exchange, or ADEP, has reached an agreement with Thanh Nien newspaper to implement a project to support Vietnamese fishermen.
Under the project, between July 20 and 25, ADEP and Thanh Nien will present cash donations to 22 needy fishermen in Quang Ngai Province’s Binh Son and Ly Son districts.
The two sides will discuss the building of a kindergarten for the children of fishermen in Binh Son with funds from ADEP.
ADEP along with two other French NGOs -- SPF and AFEPS -- will also work with Thanh Nien and local authorities to build a long-term plan to provide diver training courses for fishermen in Ly Son, Nha Trang and Con Dao, an island district of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.
Funding for the courses will come from the three NGOs.
