The Ministry of Construction is seeking the government's approval to hire a French institute to establish a "master plan" for the Hanoi region, news site VnExpress reported Monday.

The IAU île-de-France, or the Institute for Urban Planning and Development of the Paris Ile-de-France Region, has been chosen by the ministry.

The ministry was previously tasked by the government with choosing a foreign consultant to come up with a comprehensive plan for the Hanoi region's socio-economic and urban development through 2030, with a vision that extends through 2050.

Three consultants IAU, France's Egis and Australia's Hansen Partnership had applied for the monumental task.

IAU was picked for its professionalism and experience in Vietnam, the ministry said.

The plan will cover Hanoi and neighboring provinces Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Ha Nam and Hoa Binh.
