French bomb defused in northern Vietnam

Military forces in the northern province of Phu Tho on Wednesday defused 350 kilogram rocket bomb dropped by the French army during the Indochina War (1946-1954).

The bomb, nearly two meters long and 40 centimeters in diameter, was fished out of the Da River, around 30 meters from shore, said Nguyen Van Hung, the local man who found the bomb, according Vietnam News Agency.

Officials from Thanh Thuy District Military Command said the bomb could have exploded at any time.
