Freezer explosion kills 2 in northern Vietnam

Two people died when a freezer exploded at a seafood company in the northern Vietnamese province of Quang Ninh on Saturday, Dan Tri newspaper reported.

The deadly accident was caused when an ammonium cylinder in a freezer exploded at the Quang Ninh Seafood Import-Export Joint-stock Company where 200 workers were working.

Tran Mai Thuong, a worker who was operating a freezing machine nearby, died on the spot.

Following the explosion, nearby residents had to evacuate due to an "unpleasant" smell, the report said.

Duong Van Quang, 63, a local, collapsed when he was running into his house and died on the way to the hospital.

A report on Vietnam News Agency said Quang was admitted to the hospital with respiratory difficulties and blue skin, adding that the cause of his death is being investigated.

Further investigations continue.
