Rescuers recovered Monday the bodies of four 14-year-old schoolgirls who drowned in a river in the northeastern province of Tuyen Quang one day earlier.
The victims were identified as Dam Thi Hien, Tran Thi Thu Hoai, Nguyen Thi Hang and Pham Thi Nu; all of them were ninth graders of Khang Nhat Secondary School in Son Duong District.
According to local authorities, the four victims, along with one other schoolgirl, were swept away by a swift current while crossing the Pho Day River in a mountainous village on Sunday afternoon.
The girls were heading for a cave located in another commune.
One of the five Hoang Thi Thu Thao was later rescued by locals and rushed to the hospital.
Thao has since recovered.
