Police in Hanoi have arrested four people accused of being involved in a case in which more than 20 people allegedly carried guns to attempt a gunfight last week, VnExpress reported Wednesday.
The newswire quoted initial findings by Dong Da District's police division as saying that the three men and one woman, between 20 to 22 years old, joined a group of some 20 people on November 23, planning to fight another group over debts.
However, as they gathered in front of the National Hospital of Geriatrics, they were busted by police, who were tipped off by locals.
Most of the gang members managed to run away during the bust, while police confiscated five guns with 12 bullets in a bag on the lawn in front of the hospital.
According to police, their investigations found that three of the suspects, Tran Huy Anh, Tran Huy Kien and Tran Ngoc Ha, were also involved in an "internal fight" using guns on November 8.
They said Kien, who had conflicts with Ha, asked Anh to accompany him to Ha's home with two swords to fight her. But Ha wasn't at home.
Later she and two others brought guns and knives with them to meet Kien. Upon finding that Kien's house was closed, they fired shots into the air two times before leaving, police said.
The VnExpress report said Anh and Kien also allegedly ganged up with 29-year-old Nguyen Duy Huan to capture a debtor. Huan has also been taken into custody.
Huan allegedly stabbed the victim, the newswire reported.
All five people are being investigated on charges of causing public disorders and illegally capturing people, the source quoted police as saying.
