Authorities at a national park in the Central Highlands Monday said a ranger has been hospitalized after being assaulted by illegal loggers.
Ta Van Tuyen of the forest management unit at Yok Don National Park in Dak Lak Province is being treated for multiple injuries including a broken nose, swelling in the face, and hematoma under the retinal pigment, news website VnExpress reported.
He was attacked while on patrol with a colleague Sunday night.
The two were following a truck carrying illegally logged timber when three motorbikes and a car stopped in front of them, and several people got out and assaulted them with fists after using tear gas, and threatened them with machetes.
They had called for back-up but the reinforcements only arrived after the assault.
Dak Lak authorities are investigating.
