Customs authorities in Ho Chi Minh City said Tuesday they have seized 1,400 diamonds worth over VND5 billion (US$239,000) from an Armenian man who allegedly smuggled them into Vietnam, and are investigating.
According to a customs officer at Tan Son Nhat Airport, tests have established that the stones found in the suitcase of the man on May 29 are diamonds.
He was arrested while completing procedures to enter the country after arriving on a flight from Thailand and failing to declare the diamonds.
No further details about the man are available.
