Vietnam's foreign ministry said on Friday that it has suspended an employee after he was arrested for hitting and seriously injuring a traffic police officer in Hanoi, the VnExpress newswire has reported.
Vu Le Hoang, 29, had been contracted to work for the ministry's Consular Department for one year; he was not a diplomat, the department said.
Hoang is now being investigated on charges of acting against people on public duty, the newswire reported
On Wednesday, Hoang was caught riding a scooter without wearing a helmet, but he ignored a traffic officers' order to pull over.
Although Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duc Chung was in his path, he still sped up and ran the officer down. Chung fell unconscious, bleeding from his mouth and nose, VnExpress said.
When arrested soon after, Hoang told police officers that he worked at the foreign ministry.
The newswire said Chung's condition has stabilized, but doctors say he still needs to kept under observation for determining if he has suffered any brain trauma.
The case is being investigated further.
