Floods kill six in central Vietnam

Floods caused by torrential rains have killed at least six people in the central region in the past two days.

On November 4, floods swept away four people who were driving their motorbikes on a bridge in Nong Son District, Quang Nam Province.

The bodies of Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, 43, and her six-year-old son Vo Nhat Truong, who riding pillion, were recovered the following day along with the bodies of Vo Van Phuc, 21, and Pham Tan, 28, who were on a motorbike behind Thuy.

Also on November 4, Le Ngoc Son, 35, of Da Nang City was swept away by rising waters caused by heavy rain on a road in Hoa Vang District.

In Thua Thien-Hue Province, Nguyen Huu Khang, a 14-year-old middle school student, was swept away by floods in a rural village on November 5.

Many schools in the province were closed because of the floods.

According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, water levels of rivers in the central provinces rose to alarming levels on November 5.
