A five-year-old boy fell off a 15th story apartment in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 2 when being left home alone on Monday.
The ill-fated child, Pham Quang Thanh, was rushed to District 2 Hospital where he succumbed to multiple injuries, VOV reported.
The accident happened at around 5 p.m. after the father, Phuong, took him from school. Phuong left him alone at home at Binh Khanh Apartments’ J Block to get his elder son from another school.
When getting home, Phuong was unable to find Thanh at home and was terrified to see his child on the ground. He quickly took Thanh to the hospital but doctors were unable to save him.
District 2 police arrived at the site to investigate. They said Thanh must have climbed on a table near the balcony and fell off.
A neighbor, who wanted to remain unnamed, said Phuong used to ask some neighbor to keep Thanh when he went out to take the other son.
Phuong's wife is a cook helper who works from 4 p.m. every day, leaving him alone to take their two sons from schools and look after them in the evening.
