Five Vietnamese fishermen injured as foreign ships open fire

Border guards in the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau Thursday said they are investigating attacks on two Vietnamese boats by foreign ships that opened fire and injured five fishermen.

The two boats with a total of 21 crew on board were fishing for squid in waters bordering Thailand on Monday and Tuesday when the attacks happened.

The attackers were believed to be of Thai nationality.

A report on the Voice of Vietnam news website Thursday said after the attack, the injured fishermen were rushed to a hospital on Phu Quoc Island in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang
