Five children four girls and a boy - were found dead in a duck pond in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on Thursday, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.
Of the five victims, Nguyen Thi Cam Van, 11, Nguyen Thi Phuong Nga, 9, and Nguyen Van Thang, 6 - were the daughters and son of Nguyen Minh and Le Thi Hang of Huong Thuy Town's Kenh Cung Village.
The other children 10-year-old Nguyen Thi Diem My and 8-year-old Nguyen Thi Kim Hang were daughters of another couple in the same village.
On Thursday afternoon, Le Thi Hang returned home from her rice fields and did not see any of her children at home. While looking for them, she found two pairs of children's shoes near the pond in front of her house.
Villagers arrived to help her and found the dead bodies of the five children in the 1.5 meter-deep pond.
It is suspected that said one of the five may have fallen into the pond while feeding the ducks and the others rushed into help. It has also been reported that none of the children knew to swim.
