A five-seat car collided with a barricade on the high-speed highway between Hanoi and the mountainous province of Lao Cai on Sunday afternoon, just hours after authorities opened the newly-finished highway.
The car, which allegedly lost control at high speed burst through a guard rail and fell down an embankment in Lao Cai province.
Fortunately there were no casualties.
The highway’s management board denied rumors that many accidents broke out on its first day in use.
However, many vehicles have travelled beyond the speed limit, authorities said.
The high-speed highway, inaugurated on the morning of the same day, cut travel time from Hanoi to Lao Cai from 12 hours to 5.
Authorities said they began to charge a toll between VND300,000 and VND1.2 million, depending on the distance driven.
