The blaze began when electric billboards caught fire on the roof of the three-story Kylin showroom on Pham Van Dong Street. Burning debris the fell onto the cars on show in the corridor, eyewitnesses told newswire Vnexpress Saturday.
It took nearly one hour for eight fire trucks and 60 fire fighters to put out the flames and prevent them from spreading to neighboring houses as well as other areas of the building, which was housing some 100 vehicles at the time.
Nguyen The Hung, deputy director of Kylin company, said there must have been electric leakage.
The accident caused an estimated VND10 billion (US$542,000) worth of damage, he said.
