Six people were killed in a fire at a construction site in Hanoi Tuesday.
The fire occurred at the Zone 9 Cooperative, a favorite place among Hanoian youths, on Tran Thanh Tong Street in Hai Ba Trung District at around 2:30 p.m.
City firefighters put out the fire around two hours later.
Police said most of the dead victims were workers. Several firefighters were injured and are currently hospitalized.
Initial investigations suggested the fire may have been started by welding sparks while the workers were restoring the building.
After the fire consumed the site, six workers were suffocated to death, police said.
The building used to be an abandoned factory. Recently, it was restored to serve as an entertainment complex that included a bar, a club, a coffee shop and a photo studio.
Youngsters flock to the building because of its unique "devastated" look. Last September, a girl and a boy in their 20s were injured after falling from the fourth floor to the third floor of the building.
The pair was posing for a photo with their backs leaning on a rotten wall when the wall collapsed.
They fell and passed out, with bricks from the wall weighing down on them.
