Four members of a family were killed in a fire in the southeastern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Sunday, online newspaper VnExpress reported.

Residents in a hamlet in Toc Tien Commune, Tan Thanh District, saw smoke and fire rising from the house of Nguyen Quoc Phong, 48, at around 1 a.m.

Residents rushed to the house, which also served as a convenience store and a motorbike repair shop, and saw fire consuming the house. But they did not hear anyone screaming.

They used water to extinguish the fire, but they could not enter the house as it was sophisticatedly locked.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they sprayed water into the house from outside and tried to break the house's door.

After they managed to break into the house and put out the fire, they took four people out of the house.

Phong, his wife Bui Thi Thoan, 48, and his father Nguyen Van Thao, 74, were already dead.

Nguyen Hong Quan, the couple's 15-year-old son, was dying. He was rushed to hospital but died upon arrival.

The fire destroyed some motorbikes and all the products of the convenience shop in the house.

Residents said the fire may have been caused by an electrical leakage.

Local police are investigating.
