Fire in 5-star HCMC hotel sends hundreds fleeing

Hundreds of customers and staff members fled the Sofitel Saigon Plaza Hotel in downtown Ho Chi Minh City in panic when a fire broke out at the five-star hotel on Saturday.

The fire started around 2 p.m. at the fourth floor, and was extinguished 15 minutes later by nearly 50 firefighters with the assistance of fire trucks, witnesses told Thanh Nien.

The cause of the fire has yet to be identified, and local agencies are investigating the case further.

Sofitel has 275 rooms and 11 suites along with other facilities like a swimming pool and conference rooms.
