A 15-month-old girl died from suffocation after fire consumed a house in Ho Chi Minh City last night.
The fire started at around 7:20 p.m. in the first floor of the house No. 132 on Ton That Dam Street in District 1, which served as an electric appliances store.
Dao Van Anh, the two-year-old girl, was reportedly sleeping alone in the second floor.
Dao Kim Vu, Anh's 28-year-old father, attempted several times to climb up to save her, but the fire consumed the wood staircase. He suffered severe leg burns.
The baby girl was already dead when firefighters found her.
The baby's aunt, who was the house owner, was found seriously burned on the first floor.
The fire was completely put out at around 9 p.m.
According to neighbors, the girl’s mother, who was selling sugarcane juice on the sidewalks in front of the house, had let her play in her aunt's house.
The girl was put into the bedroom on the second floor after she fell asleep.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
