Fifty-one people became homeless after a fire has leveled down five houses and partially burnt two others at a busy residential area at noon today in Ho Chi Minh City, authorities said.
Two firefighters were slightly injured while trying to put out the fire, said local officials, adding that all residents in the neighborhood were safe.
The fire reportedly started at around 11 a.m. in a locked house in a small alley in Ben Van Don St., District 4, and quickly spread to other houses, sending billowing clouds of thick black smoke into the air.

Teachers and students at a kindergarten in the neighborhood, as well as hundreds of residents from the nearby Khanh Hoi 3 apartment building were immediately evacuated.
It took firefighters 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze is on going.
