A fire broke out at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theater in Hanoi Sunday evening, but no casualties were reported.

The fire started at around 8 p.m. when explosions were heard and electric sparks were seen in front of the theater, according to nearby residents.

A fire quickly engulfed the front part of the building while a puppet show took place inside.

The area where the fire occurred was in front of Ngoc Son Temple near the Sword Lake, where a large number of tourists had gathered.

The fire left the foreigners in a state of panic. Local authorities evacuated them from the theater.

Two fire trucks extinguished the fire soon afterwards.

Preliminary investigations showed that an electrical leakage caused billboards in front of the theater to catch fire.
