A billboard in front of Majestic Hotel in downtown Ho Chi Minh caught fire on Monday, when people were flocking to the city’s biggest Tet event nearby, leading to serious traffic congestion.
The fire was discovered by passers-by who then alarmed the hotel’s staff, local media reported, quoting witnesses.
It was extinguished before four fire trucks arrived at the scene.
Witnesses said the fire was possibly caused by some electrical problems in the system of decorative lights.
The city kicked off its annual flower festival on Ham Nghi Street, in celebration of the Vietnamese Lunar New Year that same day.
