Criminal investigators have recommended that three Filipinos, including a former police officer, be charged with drug trafficking, local newswire Vnexpress reported Friday.

Ex-police officer John Lopez Diemsen, 48, was accused of cooperating with Dahilan Ordanza Jeffrey, 27, and Raquel Malayao Ramos, 32, to traffic drugs across Vietnamese borders.

Vietnamese police begun their investigation after Cambodian police caught a Filipino with nearly two kilograms of heroin in early August last year.

Local drug crime investigators then cooperated with Tay Ninh Province police at the Cambodia border to catch Ramos and Diemsen, then transferring nearly 900 grams of heroin in five plastic bags.

Jeffrey was caught later at a hotel in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. He told police he had hired Diemsen to get the drug into Vietnam to send back the Philippines.

All the three of arrested told police they had entered Vietnam many times as tourists and formed a drug trafficking ring between the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Police are looking for more people involved in the ring.
