A 24-year-old girl in Ho Chi Minh City was locked up in her room and burnt to death by her father on Sunday.
Inital investigations show the act was triggered by a quarrel between the girl's parents.
On Saturday afternoon, Huynh Thuat returned to his house in Go Vap District with angry face and pushed his daughter, Huynh Thi Thanh Tam, into her room on the ground floor of the house, online newspaper VnExpress said Sunday, quoting neighbors.
The neighbors said they heard Tam crying loudly but didn't intervene.
They only called firefighters for help after seeing smoke coming out from the house.
Three fire trucks and 30 policemen came to the site. They put out the fire and took the girl out. But Tam died soon after being admitted to the hospital because of serious burn injuries.
Initial reports from the police suggest that Thuan had fallen out with his wife and vented his anger by killing his daughter.
Thuan has been arrested by the police who are investigating the case further.
