Police in central Vietnam's Ninh Thuan Province on Friday rescued a 13-year-old boy who had been chained and beaten by his father.
Friday is celebrated as the International Children's Day in Vietnam.
Chau Van Phuc Thien said he had been assaulted by his father many times, including an instance when a burning cigarette was stubbed on his body, according to a Tuoi Tre newspaper report published Sunday.
Chau Van Thuan, the 40-year-old father who was drunk on Friday when he tried to stop the police from freeing the boy, has admitted to the beating.
"From all the statements, Thien had his arms broken at least three times," said Thanh Thanh Luyen, a local police officer.
Some of Thien's injuries were still bleeding on Friday and he could not move his right arm, which was swollen because of fractures.
Investigations found the man also regularly beat his 38-year-old wife, sending her to hospital with injuries several times.
Reasons of the beatings have been made clear.
The boy's condition is being tested and his father has been detained, police said.
