A couple and their baby are feared drowned in a boat accident in Ho Chi Minh City Friday, news website VietNamNet reported.

The accident happened at around 5:30 p.m. on the Long Tau River when a 12,000 ton container boat driven by Polish captain Platek Rober hit a barge carrying 1,500 tons of rock.

A woman named Hao, sleeping with her one year old daughter Nguyen Thi Anh Duyen, were thrown into the river from the barge. Nguyen Tan Viet, Hao's husband, jumped into the river to save them, but there has been no sign of the family since.

The barge sank 300 meters from the nearest island on the river.

Two other people on the barge, Nguyen Tan Toan and Nguyen Van Cuoi, were saved by nearby fishermen.

Local soldiers and firefighting personnel are still looking for the missing people.
