Police in the northern city of Hai Phong Tuesday arrested two men who had opened fire at officers the previous night after being stopped on the street on suspicion.
They stopped the motorbike of Nguyen Viet Dung, 35, and Nguyen Thac Minh Hieu, 28, at around 1:45 a.m. Monday, and the men claimed to be on-duty police officers but failed to show any papers.
They discovered a pair of handcuffs and two police shoulder patches in the motorbike’s underseat storage.
When the officers ordered the two men to a nearby police station for questioning, Dung whipped out a gun from his trouser pocket and threatened to open fire.
The two then fled on their motorbike.
When the officers pursued them, Dung reportedly fire a shot, but luckily no one was injured.
The couple discarded their motorbike in Hai An District, where Dung stole another motorbike at gunpoint from a local and fled.
Hieu ran into a market to elude the police.
But officers managed to arrest both at their homes early Tuesday morning. Dung has three previous convictions for fraud and causing injuries to others.
