Police in the southern province of Dong Nai said Wednesday they seized bills of exchange worth 140 million euros (US$174.76 million) from four people including a foreigner on suspicion they are fake.
The bills were reportedly confiscated from a Taiwanese and three Vietnamese when they were completing procedures to deposit them at a Vietinbank branch in Bien Hoa town Tuesday.
The bank's staff had informed local agencies, suspecting the bills were counterfeit.
The four admitted they deposited the bills at the bank to furnish proof of their existence and use it to raise deposits.
