The People's Supreme Procuracy, Vietnam's highest prosecutor's office, has charged four former prison officers in the Central Highlands with
using "corporal punishment" that led to the death of a imate last year.
According to the indictment prepared by the highest prosecuting office of Vietnam, on September 23, officers of the Dak Trung Prison severely beat up Truong Thanh Tuan, serving a 24-year-jail term, with rubber batons.
The 27-year-old man died on the way to a local hospital.
The former officers, Hoang Dinh Nam, Nguyen Van Tho, Le Huu Thiet and Tran Van Phuc, claimed that Tuan had engaged in offensive acts and insulted his warders.
