Police in the north-central province of Quang Tri Wednesday arrested two people for allegedly being involved in the illegal transport of 704 kilograms of explosives, according to a local official.

Le Phuong Nam, deputy head of Gio Linh District's police division, said Vo Minh Hung, 38, and Vo Nhu Hai, 24, were accused of illegally trading explosives.

On September 3, local police caught three people transporting 704 kilograms of explosives on a taxi heading to the south.

Further investigations led police to arrest six others, including Hung and Hai, and confiscate another 93 kilograms of explosives, Nam said.

Investigations into the case are still underway, police said.
