A 10th grader who had pleaded exhaustion and asked to be excused from physical education class in school Monday in the northern province of Vinh Phuc died during warm up.
The teacher had turned down Do Cao Lam's request and ordered him to run along with the others, a student said on condition of anonymity.
The police suggested that the 15-year-old died of a heart attack, the Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper reported Thursday.
Lam and his class at Ngo Gia Tu High School were doing two laps of the schoolyard at 10 a.m when he pulled up after barely starting.
He leaned on a wall before suddenly collapsing, teachers said.
He was given first aid but died soon after.
Tien Phong said Lam's mother had not left the bed or eaten anything as of Wednesday.
Do Ngoc Khanh, the boy's father, said no test had ever showed Lam had a heart condition.
He was not planning to sue the school or its teachers, he said.
"There's nothing I can do to bring my son back. But I want teachers to stop forcing students to exercise beyond their capability."
