A former convict from northern Vietnam is facing illegal drug storage charges after he was caught trading heroin at his former prison.
Tran Van Huan from Hai Phong was caught smuggling two packs of heroin to prisoners at the local Xuan Nguyen jail, news website VnExpress reported Tuesday.
Police began monitoring Huan when he began frequently visiting the prison.
The 23 year old was previously convicted of robbery and was released from the same prison during Vietnam Independence Day amnesty earlier this month.
Searches at his house found more than 14 grams of heroin and more than 0.3 grams of methamphetamine.
Investigations showed that Huan had discussed his plans to smuggle drugs with two other prisoners, named Duong and Hoang, while he was incarcerated there.
Huan and Hoang, who have been released, provided the drugs to Duong to retail among the prisoners.
Police are investigating further and looking for Hoang who has since fled.
