The Ministry of Public Security has detained four people, including two employees of Vietnam's top shipping firm, for investigation into their smuggling of electronic devices from Hong Kong over sea.
Four suspects include the alleged ring leader Le Van Tien, Nguyen Thi Thu Lieu, Bui Tran Nguyen and Nguyen Ngoc Minh, police said Monday.
Tran Nguyen is captain and Ngoc Minh the chief mechanic of container ship Vinalines Pioneer of Vinalines. The boat was on Saturday last week found with a large amount of undocumented electronics, including iPhones, iPads and laptops worth around US$479,800 at Transvina port in the northern city of Hai Phong.
Lieu was suspected of helping to acquire the contraband in Hanoi.
