Hanoi is planning to introduce electric cars to the city later this month to carry passengers around the Old Quarter and the Sword Lake during its 1,000th anniversary, a local news website said.
The city government has asked Hoan Kiem District to cooperate with Dong Xuan Company, that invested in the cars, to carry out the plan, which can be delayed until no later than July, as the main millennial celebrations are in October, Vnexpress reported.
According to the plan, Dong Xuan Company will organize two tours to 15 destinations, one traveling through the trade streets and Dong Xuan Market, the other through streets with cuisine specialties, craft villages and historic sites.
The battery-run cars with five to 12 seats will arrive at each destination every 20 minutes. Fares are VND10,000-30,000 (US$0.53-1.58).
The Hanoi People's Committee said concerned agencies have to frequently assess the cars' operation so that any problems can be ironed out before the anniversary, when they are expected to be fully operational.
