Hai Phong police have arrested two men for running a Facebook page that allegedly defamed police officers and alerted drivers of traffic checkpoints in the northern city.
Nguyen Duc Hao, a 21-year-old student of Vietnam Maritime and University and Hoang Anh Thu, 23, an employee of an electronics shop, were arrested on July 30, police said.
Police also seized their computers and cell phones.
Preliminary investigation found that Hao set up a Facebook page called "Tranh chot CSTG Hai Phong" (Avoid Hai Phong Traffic Police’s Checkpoints) in October 2014.
He and Thu are the page’s admins. They have posted photos and information about temporary checkpoints of the city traffic police as well as libelous comments, police said.
At the police station, Hao confessed that he set up the page to help other drivers avoid the police.
After being fined for a traffic violation, he began to post the defamatory comments, he said.
Recently, the duo set up another Facebook page with similar information about traffic police in Hai Duong Province and has advertised to sell this page.
