A 19-year-old youth died in a horrific accident in Da Nang Wednesday night after his motorcycle was hit by a car driven by a drunk South Korean man.
The young man, identified only as Tien, was dragged for 20 meters under the car and died on the spot, witnesses said.
News website VnExpress Thursday said the accident happened at around 10:30 p.m. when Paek Yong Kil, driving a Huyndai car, encroached into the lane going in the opposite direction as he tried to overtake another car.
The person riding pillion behind Tien was injured after being thrown by the collision, hitting the front of the car.
"The car dragged the motorbike and the man towards the sidewalk, hit a coconut tree and stopped," an eyewitness said.
Kil and the injured rider were rushed to a local hospital.
The headlights and the front windscreen of the car were smashed and a front tyre dislodged in the accident, while the motorbike was completely smashed up.
Kil is said to be working for a company in Da Nang.
Police are investigating the accident further.
