A tax official who fatally ran over two people on the street in the southern province of Binh Duong last week had excessive blood alcohol levels, news website Dan Viet reported Wednesday.
Tran Van Phuoc, 49, chief of the Dau Tieng District Tax Bureau, had been attending a wedding party and then another party at a beer restaurant close to the accident site, the district police said after obtaining the results of tests.
He is in police custody.
He faces charges of driving his official car at very high speed on October 3 and crashing into Tran Bich Phuc, 33, a Dau Tieng sanitation worker who was sweeping the street.
After that he knocked over Luu Tan Nhon, a lottery-ticket seller who was riding his bicycle in the same direction
Both Phuc and Nhon died on the spot.
Phuoc turned himself in to the police after the accident.
