Police in the northern mountainous province of Lang Son seized 16.5 kilograms of heroin in a special mission earlier this month, officials from the Ministry of Public Security said during a press conference on Monday.
The police on January 18 managed to stop Doan Van Bo, 39, and Do Van Hoan, 37, after chasing them for more than a kilometer as they transported the drug from Hanoi to Lang Son.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, director of the Department for Drug Crime Investigation at the ministry, said his unit had their eyes on Bo and Hoan since early January. Confidential sources had informed the police that the men from nearby Bac Giang Province were involved in a big drug trafficking operation.
On Saturday last week, officials from the department arrested two other drug traffickers Nguyen Thi Kim Nen and Duong Thi Thanh Huyen at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, seizing 4.3 kilograms of heroin that they'd brought from abroad.
Investigators suspect that the women belong to a drug trafficking ring that includes some African people.
