Many drug addicts have escaped from a rehab center in northern Vietnam.

Authorities on Tuesday said only 12 out of 31 escapees had been sent back to the center in Hai Duong Province around 57 kilometers from Hanoi, news website VnExpress reported.

The addicts ran away on December 10, when the center gate was opened for a car.

Cao Ngoc Lan, deputy police chef of the province, said a statement has been sent to district police officers to look for the addicts.

Lan said families of the patients were also persuaded to send them back if they went home.

Last year, more than 500 drug addicts escaped a rehab center in Hai Phong in the area. Local police struggled to bring them back.
