Police in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue arrested a bus driver Tuesday for allegedly causing a head-on collision with another bus in which two people killed and 13 others were injured.
Nguyen Van Nam, 34, of the Central Highlands Province of Dak Lak, faces charges of “flouting road traffic safety regulations.”
The accident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on National Highway 1A in Phong Dien District’s Tan Lap Commune when Nam was driving 18 passengers north and crashed into a 16-seat bus driven by Tran Anh Quang, 44, of Hue.
Fifteen people, including six foreigners, were rushed to Thua Thien-Hue General Hospital and Hue Central Hospital.
Vietnamese-Canadian Huynh Cong Thuan, 61, died of shock and loss of blood soon after arriving at the latter hospital.
Duong Dao, 30, of Phan Thiet in the south-central province of Binh Thuan, died of severe brain trauma Tuesday afternoon.
Thuan’s wife had her arm broken but decided to take her husband's body to Ho Chi Minh City for burial.

Five of the injured are still in hospital while the others, including two Americans, an Austrian, and a Romanian, have been discharged.
While Nam’s overturned and plunged into a field, Quang’s bus had its front portion smashed.
Colonel Nguyen Han, chief of the Thua Thien-Hue police department’s social crimes investigation division, said Nam was reportedly speeding when he veered into the wrong lane and caused the accident.
Colonel Le Quoc Hung, deputy chief of the Thua Thien-Hue police department, said the accident occurred on a dangerous curve.

Also in Thua Thien-Hue, police in Huong Thuy town said Wednesday they have arrested Ma Dinh Chinh, 33, the driver of a tipper truck from the north-central province of Quang Tri for causing a collision with a passenger bus.
The accident occurred Monday morning when he drove head-on into a bus driven by Pham Tien Si, 30, of Ha Tinh Province.
Le Manh Khang, 55, the bus owner and also from Ha Tinh, died on the spot.
Si's leg was broken and more than 20 passengers were injured and taken to Huong Thuy General Hospital and Hue Central Hospital.
The front of the bus was smashed.
Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported that the truck driver possibly lost control and strayed into a wrong lane, causing the accident.
Investigations are going on into both accidents.
