A bus driver involved in a hit and run accident that killed two people and seriously injured another in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai turned himself to the police on July 18.

The accident had happened a day earlier.

A VnExpress report said Monday that R'Com Tran Quang Thai, 24, driving a mini bus hit a bike that was being driven by Ro Cham H'Pien, 54, with his wife Kpuih H'Mi and his four-year-old daughter Kpuih H'Thao.

Pien and his daughter died on the spot, while the wife sustained critical injuries.

Thai fled the scene and was soon detected by police in Duc Co District. But he drove his bus through the police's check-point and gave then the slip after about 20 kilometers.

VnExpress said the man was chased again in Chu Prong District, more than 40 kilometers from the accident site. The bus plunged into a swamp, but Thai managed to get away again, leaving the bus behind.

Local police were able to identify the driver after seizing the bus, and Thai turned himself in the following morning.
