A pressure oven steam container at a Mekong Delta tinning factory exploded Sunday, killing two workers and severely wounding 20 others.
Pham Thi Ngoc Giau, 23, was killed on the spot while Nguyen Hong Ly, 18, died on the way to hospital.
Dozens of employees were about to start their morning shift at around 8:30 a.m. at Vinh Kien Company, which cans frozen fruits in Kien Giang Province, when the accident occured.
Around 20 injured persons were first sent to Kien Giang General Hospital.
Then Ha Ngoc Han, who suffered burns on more than 90 percent of her body, was transferred to Cho Ray, a major hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, VOVNews reported. Three others received burns on more than 50 percent of their bodies.
Many tools along the production line were also damaged.
Investigators said the steam container was not made by an authorized producer and never underwent a safety test by concerned agencies.
The oven system had been run for trial two days earlier and things were normal, investigators said.
Authorities are continuting to investigate the casue of the accident.
