The bodies of three people from a family, including a five year old girl, were found in a river in south central Vietnam on Saturday.

Locals in Phu Yen Province speculate the family might have committed suicide as they owed debts of nearly VND1 billion (US$48,000) to different people, news website Dan Tri reported.

The bodies of Tran Van Troi, his wife Nguyen Thi Thu Ha and their daughter Tran Thi Yen Nhi were found by a local man. Their motorbike, footwear and helmets were found on the side of the river.

Initial investigations show that Troi was a temporary worker at a district post office who earned extra income by selling mobile phone SIM cards.

The couple had another child 18 months old, who has been left at a kindergarten since Friday without anyone coming to pick her up.
