A teenager and her two friends tied up her own mother in a robbery late last month in Ho Chi Minh City's District 9, police said.
The police said they arrested on Sep. 5 Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Lam, 16, Lai Tran Thanh Thuy, 16, and Phan Nhat Hoa, 15 for allegedly robbing Lam's mother, Phuong Anh, in Khang Dien residential area on Aug. 27.
According to the police, Lam, who did not live with her mother, and her friends made their first attempt to break into the house late in the evening on Aug. 26, which was foiled by the area's security guards. Lam was arrested while her friends managed to flee.
The guards handed over Lam to the ward police who, after a brief interrogation, returned her to her mother Phuong Anh, who lives with a six-year-old son and whose husband was away on business.
At around 5 am on Aug. 27, Lam opened the door to let Thuy and Hoa in the house, according to the police's affidavit.
The trio then went to Phuong Anh's bedroom on the first floor, tied her up and took away many valuable properties, including 2 mobile phones, an Ipad, a camera, an ATM card, a bankbook and around US$200 in cash.
They also used the mother's scooter to run away.
The mother managed to untie herself later and reported the robbery to local police.
