Police in central Vietnam Friday found nearly one ton of the deadly chemical compound cyanide after conducting an inspection into a south-bound bus.
The chemical was packed in many bags placed in the bus' cargo hold, the police of the central city of Da Nang said.
The bus driver, 40-year-old Nguyen To Van, told the police that before his bus left Hanoi's Giap Bat Station to carry passengers to Ho Chi Minh City, one person had the cargo booked to the central province of Quang Nam.
The police said the chemical might be meant for sale to enterprises or illegal gold miners in Quang Nam.
Cyanide can be used in gold mines to separate the metal from other substances.
The police are investigating the case further.
